According to one of the most famous Warsaw legends, in the cellars of a crumbling tenement on Krzywe Koło Street there lived a Basilisk — a royal lizard with a white spot resembling a crown.
It was so terrifying that a single glance turned people to stone. Daredevils and knights perished one after another trying to defeat it. The Old Town was finally freed by a clever tailor who used a mirror — the monster saw its own reflection and defeated itself.
Today, at Old Town Market Square 5, stands the Tenement Under the Basilisk, and the story still draws tourists and gives residents a pleasant shiver.
