Opis
Dated to around 1428. Repeatedly extended over the following centuries. After 1750 the owner Ambroży Tomasz Czempiński placed a lion relief on the corner, referring to the family's heraldry.
In 1928 the facade was decorated by Zofia Stryjeńska. Destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1952–1953 to designs by Mieczysław Kuzma and Józef Chodaczek. The post-war sgraffiti were made by Edmund Burke, and the sundial on the Świętojańska Street side by Tadeusz Przypkowski.
The name 'Under the Lion' comes from the corner relief. The house also appears in sources as Twardostojewska, Wilczkowska and Erlerowska.
