Opis

Warsaw's fortifications were built in stages from the beginning of the 14th century, when the first ring of walls was established, until the 16th century, when a second outer ring with an inner wall passage was added.

Significant fragments of the inner wall with towers have survived to our day. Sections destroyed during the war were reconstructed in the 1950s, recreating the medieval course of the fortifications.

A walking path leads along the walls, passing by the Barbican, the Powder Tower (Baszta Prochowa), and the site of the former Kraków Gate (Brama Krakowska).

Highlights

  • Approx. 1200 m of preserved wall fragments.
  • St. Mary's Inner Wall (Międzymurze św. Marii Panny) — a picturesque street between the rings.
  • Visible information plaques detailing the history of successive towers.
