Opis
Sigismund III Vasa (1566–1632), King of Poland from the Vasa dynasty, moved his court to Warsaw after the Wawel fire in 1595. Formally, the capital remained in Krakow, but it was at the Royal Castle (Zamek Królewski) where the sejms were held and the monarchs resided.
His character is commemorated by Sigismund's Column, erected in 1644 by his son, Władysław IV — Warsaw's oldest secular monument and the first monument of its kind in Central Europe dedicated to a secular person.
