Opis
The Mermaid is a legendary half-woman, half-fish creature who, according to legend, was meant to protect Warsaw. She has appeared on the city's coat of arms since the 14th century.
The most famous monument of the Mermaid — with a sword and shield — stands in the middle of the Old Town Market Square. It was created in 1855 by Konstanty Hegel; the current bronze copy from 2008 replaced the damaged version (the original was moved to the Museum of Warsaw).
