Built in 1448–1455, rebuilt in the 16th century and after the great fire of Old Warsaw in 1607 (reconstructed in 1610). After 1873 it was internally joined with No. 4, both facades were unified and the building was raised to five storeys.
During the 1928 restoration of the Market Square the facade was decorated with a polychrome by Ludomir Sleńdziński. Destroyed in 1944 — mainly the cellars and fragments of the stone portal survived. Rebuilt in 1952–1953 to a design by Teodor Bursze and Stanisław Kamiński.
The name 'Gizińska' comes from the Giza family, owners from 1542 for almost a century. It is also called 'Martensowska' after a later owner, Marcin Martens.
